"Interiors"

Sara Schmidt was born in Mexico City in 1946. She has a degree in Art History (Institutato de Cultura Superior A.C., '90), is is a writer, a painter and a photographer. She also studied cinematography at New York University in 1993-94. Sara took up photography when she was young. She studied photography in Mexico, New jersey, and in New York at the International Center of Photography. She has exhibited her haunting "Camps" series of stark death camp photographs at the Valy Gallery in Montclair, NJ (in 1999), and the JCC at West Orange. NJ (in 2000), in which she revealed her creative journalistic vision.

In 1999 Sara studied with Elizabeth Opalenik at the Santa Fe Workshops, and in 2000 with Elizabeth on Provence. Some of the black and white images from her 1999 work are exhibited in her "Lines & Curves" virtual gallery. Presented here are a series of color images that she has digitally rendered using PhotoShop techniques.

I have never seen anything quite like what Sara have done with these images. She began with her superb original 35mm artwork. The final images were born out of the painter's heart within Sara. The black and white work in her Lights and Curves gallery is a softer side of the discerning eye that created the Camp Series which is Sara as photographer. In this "Interiors" series, Sara's delicate and sensuous underlying photographic image is merely the canvas on which she whimsically and boldly paints using PhotoShop tools.
